1. Nanxun Ancient Town 南浔古镇景区

Nanxun Ancient Town, located in Nanxun District, Huzhou City, is a historical town known for its waterways, which served as the city’s roadways, alongside which houses and carved-brick arches were built.

Once called Xunxi in the 9th century, Nanxun was one of the first entrepreneurial regions in the south of the Yangtze River. Thanks to its proximity to water, the town quickly became a hub for silk trade.

Offer: When arriving at Nanxun Station, passengers can show their train ticket and ID at the visitor center within 72 hours for free admission to many of the old town’s tourist spots, including:

小莲庄(Xiaolian Garden), 嘉业藏书楼 (Jiaye Cangshu Lou), 张石铭旧宅(Zhang Shiming’s Former Residence), 刘氏梯号 (Liu’s House, also known as the “red house” — a west-facing architectural complex blending Chinese and Western styles), 张静江故居(Zhang Jingjiang’s Former Residence), and 宜园(Yi Garden).

The offer is valid for three months. Check with local authorities for more information.

Living up to its nickname “Shanghai’s Backyard Garden,” visitors can enjoy hiking, exploring the nature, and savoring the local cuisine.

The optimal time to visit Mogan Mountain is from May to November, when the weather is cool and pleasant, compared to the heat of Shanghai. The fog after rain also creates a magical atmosphere, making it ideal for photography and nature walks.

Fun fact: The Yangtze alligator is regarded as a symbol of longevity and wisdom in Chinese tradition. According to a folklore, the alligator has supernatural abilities that can fend off evil spirits and bring good fortune to those who respect its presence.
